Strawberry Picking on June 3rd

June 3rd, 2011 our Lily Bean turned one and we were preparing to bury our 21 year old nephew. We needed to keep busy and since Ella had an early dismissal day and Lily was at the zoo (having celebrated her big day the previous week end) with her parents and brother we decided to pick some strawberries and then meet the birthday girl at the putt putt course for ice cream.

Sami , thankfully, took a nap on the way to get Ella so she was relaxed for the strawberry patch. They have a small playground there so they played while Papa got our containers weighed and directions as to what row to pick. They wore their birthday pillowcase dresses from last year, their birthdays are a month apart, Sami in June and Ella in July.Of course Sami didn't understand why we had to leave the slide.
Ella was a so much pickier this year. LAST YEAR she just picked and ate. This year she only picked the perfect ones and wouldn't eat them before they were washed.Sami picked everything and anything. Then she figured out she could just sit and eat the ones I had already picked. Although she was just taking one bite out of each one and throwing it back.EllaPapa, we picked $26 worth at $1.50 a pound. The grass is always greener on the other side.
Ella thought for sure there were better strawberries on Papa's side. Then we went back to the playground and Sami made a friend. We were worried she was always going to be shy but she seems to be taking after her sister a little bit and coming out of her shell.

Then it was time to go to the putt putt place.

So cute because I know in the blink of an eye they will be riding in a real car.

They even had a club for Sami.

Ella definitely enjoyed it more than Sami.although Sami triedSami did like the penguin.

Ella loved the squirrel, it's actually her school mascot.Where did the ball go?Here it is!Then it was time for ice cream

Papa just got her vanilla in a cup but she refused to eat it when she saw Ella's. He had to go back and get sprinkles and then she ate it like a cone.Jack showed up and had to show me his boo boo from falling at the zoo.Of course we had to give Lily a little something even though we gave her our big gift at her party. What one year old girl doesn't need a leopard print rocking chair. So great to get together in such a casual settingHappy Birthday Lily Jean, Jelly Bean!
